New Summer Show...

I watched the series premier of "Falling Skies" on my days off.

I have to say, I came away pretty impressed. The special effects seemed pretty impressive, especially by TV standards. They may not be quite up to "LOST" standards, but overall I thought they were pretty good.

I also like that the story is different. Sure, it's a post-apocalyptic aliens have invaded story, but MOST of those types of stories occur during the invasion or very shortly after the invasion.

In "Falling Skies," we get to see the human resistance a good while after the initial invasion. The humans are fairly organized, instead of in chaos like you would normally see immediately following a disaster, and we get the impression that they are slowly turning back the aliens...but that there is still little hope because they mention that the mother ship will come back.

I really like Noah Wyle's character. He's a history professor that has a vast knowledge of military history, tactics, and warfare in general. He's not a soldier, so he lacks first hand experience, but his expertise make him a really great tactician. I like that he's not really some kind of gung-ho super soldier. He's just a regular guy, trying to stay alive in a world full of aliens.

The premier was two hours long, really just two different episodes. The two episodes had very different feelings from each other, but overall I felt that they worked together really well.

In the end, I really enjoyed the show. I'm hoping it sticks around for a while, because I think there's a lot of potential here.
