Guild Wars...
So I got a PC game to play on the new computer tonight.
I was at a bit of a loss for what type of game to get. I don't play games on the PC...I'm a console gamer. I really don't like playing first person shooters or sports games on the PC at all. I also was reluctant to get a strategy game because the one that I liked had quite a few negative responses about the way it worked...you had to run two programs in the background anytime you wanted to play it, and those programs didn't always connect the way they were supposed to.
One type of game that I have enjoyed in the past on the PC is the MMORPG. That's a massively multiplayer game...thing "World of Warcraft." I have played "Everquest" and "City of Heroes" in the past and really enjoyed them, so I thought that maybe that was what I should be looking for...but I didn't want to pay a monthly service fee to be able to play the game.
So I found this game called "Guild Wars." It's a free MMO, and it looked pretty cool. I read some reviews about it, and it got generally favorable comments. I was able to pick it up for $20, which isn't bad at all.
I didn't install it yet, so I don't really have any comments on how it plays, but it looks like it's the type of game that you can play for a long time...just like "WoW" or "EQ."
I also did some more research on strategy games because I would really like one of those. I've got it narrowed down to "Sins of a Solar Empire" and "Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II." I really like the way that "Dawn of War II" seems to be set up, but it's the game I mentioned above that got a lot of negative comments based on the way it has to have Steam and Windows Live running whenever you play it...so I'm not sure which one I will end up going with. "Sins" is a bargain priced game now, at about $20 or so, where "Dawn" is brand new and costs $50.
I'll do a bit more research on "Dawn" to see what the real problem people have with it is, and make my decision then...
