One Down...
So the game tonight was unbelievable. What a game. I thought the refs did a pretty good job of letting the two teams play. Malkin had one breakaway that probably should've been called a penalty, but other than that it was a pretty clean and competitive game.
The kind of game that is great to watch. Some great shots. Some great saves. Some big hits. And a few more goals by the Wings than the Pens.
The first two goals by the Wings were kind of flukey...both of them went in off of Marc-Andre Fleury. But that was countered by one pretty weak goal by Pittsburgh. Osgood thought he had the puck under his glove but instead Fedotenko picked it up and threw it in the net.
The best goal of the game, however, went to the rookie...Justin Abdelkader. Now, I know hockey is kind of crazy with how often you play and blah blah blah. But let's just say that Abdelkader is a rookie. He scored the third goal for the Wings, the one that effectively iced the game. He took a pass from another rookie, Ville Leino, and took a shot from just to the right of the net. The puck shot up into the air, and only Abdelkader saw it. He snatched it out of the air set it down and hit the back of the net for his first ever NHL goal.
Now, the thing about this goal, to me, is the fact that it makes me smile every time I see it, simply because they had a mic right on the play and you could hear him throughout the whole play when they showed "Sounds of the Game" a few minutes later...it went like this...
"Ville!!! Ville!!!..........YES......WOOOOHOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!"
It was absolutely great because as he realizes he's scored he yells "YES!!" but gets knocked down right as he yells it...then gets up and just starts screaming. Really makes you realize how much fun these guys can have when things are going their way.
Well, one down...and it was an awesome one. Game two is tomorrow night!!!
Go Wings!!!!
