Step Into Liquid...

So yesterday I watched a documentary. I like watching documentaries. They are great.

This one is called "Step Into Liquid." It's a 2003 documentary about surfing. It's absolutely fantastic. It's directed by Dana Brown.

It takes a look inside the hobby of surfing. I say hobby because after watching the documentary, it becomes obvious that surfing is less of a sport and more of just something to do to have fun and pass time. If you watch it, you'll pick up on what I mean.

It looks at some of the pioneers of the modern era of surfing. It visits some of the most exotic places to surf...including Pipe Line in Hawai'i, some beaches in Vietnam, Chile, Lake Michigan in Wisconsin (yes they surf there, and they are good), and culminates in an absolutely epic shoot at Cortes Bank...an underwater mountain range 120 miles or so off the coast where when the conditions are right end up throwing 70 foot waves at the surfers.

The documentary is amazing. It really portrays surfers in a different light than most other things show them in.

If you get a chance and have two hours to kill...give it a try. I thought it was excellent.
