So today the Spartans finished off a 5 game winning streak. A winning streak which put them 4 games ahead in the Big 10. They actually had the Championship wrapped up last Tuesday night, but in typical Tom Izzo fashion, the team wasn't allowed to celebrate until after they won against Purdue today at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
This is the Spartans first Big 10 Championship since 2001, and their first outright Big 10 Championship since 1999. It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since they won their last title outright. Especially when you consider the fact that they went all the way to the Final Four in 2000, 2001, and 2005.
They will probably end up with a really solid #2 seeding in the Tournament. I think that they are a #1 caliber team, but they had two pretty "bad" home losses this season that I think will keep them as a #2 for the Tournament. But that's okay, it's still a good spot to be in.
This team has a lot of talent, and I think when they play their best hoops they can easily hang with any team in the NCAA. With that said, it's going to be a CRAZY tournament this year!!!
